The Power of Giving!

Sego Lily Center for the Abused Deaf invited me to attend to their holiday dinner at the Deaf Center and I was so thrilled to be a part of the holiday dinner. They also asked me to give a presentation about the Power of Giving. The power of giving is so huge. Just a simple act of giving can improve ones health, relationships, and more importantly, your happiness. Plus the fact that you make people around you happy. Giving is a simple act of Love and Kindness. You can make a huge difference in someone’s life just by giving someone a hug, giving a smile when someone’s sad, giving a gift to someone who never had anything, donating a organ to someone who is dying, donating your clothes to someone who barely had clothes, and when you do give, you feel like you are making a difference. That’s one of the most amazing feelings in the world, knowing you are helping someone.

Sego Lily Center for the Abused Deaf’s theme were the “The Giving Tree,” written by Shel Silverstein. Have you ever heard of this story? It is about the tree who gives the little boy everything the tree had. It is a wonderful story and it is a perfect example of Giving.

This book has always been my favorite when I was a little girl. It taught me the real meaning of Giving and I love to give. I love to see other people happy and when I give, it makes me happy as well. Everyone has different ways of sharing their love to others and it’s important to show them how much you appreciate them. Just because you know you love them doesn’t mean they know. Life is short, so find a few different ways to express your love to others depending on the type of relationship you share with them. After all, everyone likes to feel loved and appreciated. That’s the power of Giving.

When I gave a presentation at the holiday dinner, I created a fun idea of each letters G-I-V-I-N-G and the words along with each letters. I hope you enjoy it!

Generosity Giving is saying

I love you and

Value you in my heart and

Invite you to have

No greater joy than

Giving your love to others!

I would like to wrap up this blog and now that Christmas is coming up soon! I’m sure you all are thrilled to spend time with your family and remember you give because you love them and care about them :) I would like to say MERRY CHRISTMAS to you all and HAVE A HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Discovering a true meaning of BEAUTY!

The young women presidency asked me to come to their evening of Excellence to talk about self-esteem and value. I created a PowerPoint about the discovering a Real meaning of BEAUTY to teach these young women to love who they are and believing in themselves that they can succeed if they set their minds to it.

My philosophy in life is believing in yourself, and love yourself unconditionally. Despite on the media, movies, and magazines these days are very harmful to the women who wants to look like those skinny models, and could lead to eating disorders. Eating disorder is a mental illness and harmful to the body, mind, and spirit. I believe that everybody is supposed to look different and I think the world would be so boring if everyone looks the same! We have to learn to be happy with ourselves. We can’t look to others to give us our sense of self-worth. Self-esteem is not a constant thing throughout your life. It has ups and downs like a roller coaster. IT IS NORMAL. Thats why when you feel down, just hang in there and keep trying, DON’T GIVE UP! Your self esteem will start rising again. If you don’t like yourself, you just need to find ways to overcome those things you aren’t happy about yourself.

I have experienced a lot of hard challenges throughout my teen years with eating disorders and I had a low self esteem so when I feel bad about myself, I would think so many negative things about me. I would feel worthless and feeling like I am not good enough, pretty enough, nor smart enough. Eventually I learned that I did not like the way I feel about myself and I decided that I should do something about it so I decided to change my thinking pattern and I started thinking positive things about myself. I started doing the things that makes me feel better about myself such as scrap booking, serving others, and just being around people. The power of positive thinking can conquer anything!

I loved every one of the young women there. It was amazing and I had so much fun!

What a wonderful day at Sego Lily Center for the Abused Deaf!

Wow, what a wonderful early morning! Sego Lily Center for Abused Deaf asked me, 1st Runner up and 2nd runner up to join them for the 2nd Annual Penny’s Legacy Bike Ride to raise proceeds for Sego Lily programs and raise awareness of domestic abuse in our community! I was so excited to be involved with the Penny’s Legacy Bike Ride event and it was such a beautiful day. Penny was the first deaf victim that died from domestic abuse in Sept 14, 1999 which made a huge impact on the deaf community and Sego Lilly Center for the Abused Deaf established to help the survivors and those who are in danger of abuse. My heart goes out for the broken hearts of Penny’s tradgey loss.

“You may not think you can reach it, Climb anyway.. You may not think you’ll be heard, Speak anyway.. You may not think you can change things, Try anyway” by Maya Angelou.

If you are the victim of any sorts of abuse, or know someone who is abused, please go to the website: www.slcad.org for further information and get help immediately.
